Kevin L. Merry

Kevin Merry has one purpose in life - to help transform the lives of others through education, acting as a catalyst for social justice and the promotion of successful outcomes for all learners, irrespective of their background. He has relentlessly worked to minimise barriers to learning for all, dedicating himself to the pursuit of limitless learning over the course of his career.

Kevin is best known for his work with Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and has received accolades for his pioneering approach to supporting diverse groups of learners via flipped classroom approaches. Specifically, Kevin has developed a unique approach to instructional design known as the 'Cheese-Sandwich' which fuses the UDL principles alongside other pedagogic approaches known to support learner achievement.

Kevin is well published, writing several books and countless journal articles, and has given hundreds of talks on the international educational speaking circuit, exploring how diverse learners can be supported to succeed in higher education, as well as works exploring how student mental health and wellbeing can be improved. He has also written extensively about effective approaches to teacher education in university settings, as well as how institutions can ignite and manage change toward more accessible, inclusive and equitable educational cultures. Kevin is the founder and chair of the Universal Design for Learning UK & Ireland Education Network, as well as the creator of the Talking Learning & Teaching Podcast and YouTube Channel.
